Personal Development Groups

Personal development – we all want it and we all need it.

We run these groups, on request, for different agencies and organisations, at a venue of your choosing. You may have experienced the benefits of counselling with us or elsewhere and wished for something more, or something different. Now we have it. And trust us, it is different.

The group will not be based on a lecture format, but on structured conversation between participants. The discussions will be guided and follow certain themes. They will follow a question and answer format, within a framework allowing each of us to take turns to speak freely without interruption. Some of the questions we will consider will demand very short answers, others will seek longer answers. Sometimes we will break into even smaller groups.

Most of the time the discussions and questions will not be obviously aimed toward personal development, but toward understanding each other. This is because we believe growth and change often comes accidentally from our interactions with others, if we take the time to listen and to share.

The groups usually run for nine sessions, over nine days or weeks.

One of the philosophies we believe in is that growth or change is often more profound when it comes accidentally through interaction with others. With this in mind, your experience of our groups might be very different to what you might expect.

The groups are structured, yet flexible.
  • Set topics will be tackled, but we will also have ‘serendipity’ time, where we both enjoy the privilege of becoming acquainted with each other, and provide feedback and reflective comments to each other.
  • The groups are low key, yet dynamic. Although they will be interactive groups, sharing or contributing to different aspects of each session will always be voluntary.
  • The mood and atmosphere of each group will be one of kindness, encouragement, attentiveness and acceptance. .
Group Details
Groups will usually have 10 to 16 participants. All group details are negotiable. Call us to discuss your needs, and hear what we may be able to do for you.

Each Group
Will function and evolve according to the individual needs and personalities of the participants. Four aspects to each meeting are:
  • Opportunity for one-on-one conversation.
  • Personal questions for group members to share answers to.
  • Discussion of relevant issues relating to personal development.
  • Structured opportunities to provide feedback to each other according to the ‘Serendipity’ method.
Who are these groups for? They are for you and me, for anyone who cares about who they are. For anyone who:
  • Generally feels that ongoing counselling, or something similar, will be beneficial,
  • Is serious about reaching out and having meaningful interaction with others,
  • Wants to be a part of a group that will nurture their personal development,
  • Wants to enjoys the company of other people,
  • Wants to be humble and attentive, believing that growth most likely comes from what we listen to rather than what we say.
Sessions might include
Where are we at? What makes us tick? What makes our heart ‘sing’? (How to discover this. Dynamics of achieving this. Strategies for achieving this.)
How do we relate? How do others see us? How do we give and take? What do we do to our relationships? What do we need in relationships now?
Self-diagnosis. Where do I go from here? How am I – really? What do I need to do? How to do what I want to do. How to be what I want to be.
Discovering others to discover ourself. Being present. Ridding our minds of chatter.
How do I get to know you? What makes you hurt? How do you love? Who are you?

We are sure you will find being a part of one of our groups to be a wonderful and rewarding experience.

Please contact us by phone for further details. We would like to speak with you before you enrol.
